James Gergely, 74, passed away May, 21, 2018 in Palm Bay, FL following a lengthy illness.
He was born October 27, 1943 in Lorain, OH. He was a graduate of Lorain High School and a US Army veteran. He worked as a forklift operator at Ford Lorain Assembly plant for 38 years before his retirement in Florida. He enjoyed motorcycling and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his sons, Jeff (Deborah) Costello of Atlanta, GA and Steven Gergely of Ohio; grandchildren Antony Costello and Norah Costello of Atlanta, GA, and Nikole Gergely of Ohio; his brother, John Gergely of Vermilion, OH; nephews James (Terry) Nelson of Palm Bay, FL, Tony (Linda) Amato of Glendale, AZ, Daniel Lightner of Albuquerque, NM, Michael (Lori) Gergely of Vermilion, OH, and Kenneth (Alison) Gergely of Roanoke, VA; nieces Linda (Brian) Sims of Sheffield Lake, OH, Cathy (Albert) Torres of Lorain, OH, Pamela Amato of Arizona, Lisa (Michael) Guesman of Cortland, OH, Sandy Rivera of New Mexico, and Denise DiLuciano of Amherst, OH; and Pogo, his loyal Yorkshire Terrier.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Geraldine (nee Lightner); his father, John M. Costello; mother, Frances Gergely (nee Gugliemino); and stepfather, John Gergely.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E Erie Ave, Lorain, on Monday, June 11, 2018, at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 555 North Ridge Road, Lorain. A memorial luncheon will be held afterward in the church hall.
